It is always at this time of year that it is easy to forget the people who have nowhere to go for Christmas. Many homeless people rely on the companionship of their dogs and that is why the Dogs Trust Hope Project is so important. Working with Crisis, the homeless charity, they work to ensure that shelters have a dog friendly policy. They even have a directory of projects that accept dogs and offer free veterinary care.

This Christmas, the charity are giving out special hampers with treats, toys, collars and leads, helping both dog and owner.

Whether you’re old enough to remember or not, this is a brilliant documentary about 60s fashion, filmed in the 60s!

Gifts For Men

Wondering what to buy the man who has everything? Here are some suggestions.

This is the iBladez Flightstick and Salvation Helicopter from theinsideman.co.uk. With its joystick remote control, you can feel like you’re actually flying a helicopter – and with a little help from your imagination!

Personal Beer is an amazing concept. You choose the name of the beer, upload a picture and you have personalised beer! Absolutely brilliant for the guy who has everything.

Gifts for Kids

Wondering what to get your kids for Christmas? We’ve found some great gifts online that we’ll be featuring over the next few days.

Firstly are eco-friendly gifts for kids, from the Natural Collection. We particularly like the Kidzsack Jungle. Kids can colour and decorate their own project bag.

The Woodcraft Collection is also brilliant. We particularly love the Owl.

The other day I visited the first pop up dog restaurant with Addie, my weimeraner. Lily’s Kitchen, who produce amazing organic dog food, created the free restaurant in Pimlico, which will be open until Christmas.  There were different areas where dogs can enjoy a sleep and be read to, the actual dining area and plenty of space to play. The address is 30, Pimlico Road, SW1W 8LJ.

The restaurant was featured in the Sun and they made a wonderful video, where Addie features heavily and you can see me in my hat just at the very end.

This week we are at Hullavington Airfield for the first of this years Mary Howard Fairs. It is a bit surreal being in an aircraft hangar for four days, but it is always such a lovely atmosphere!

Mary Howard started running charity fairs in the 1980s, mainly raising money for the NSPCC. The first fair was held in her home with a handful of stalls. From there it has grown into three annual fairs, with a huge following of loyal customers and stall holders. The fairs have raised money for almost 50 different charities, of varying sizes. The other two fairs are held at York Racecourse and Sandown Park Racecourse.

Very sadly, two years ago at Hullavington Airfield, Mary was killed in a car crash while leaving the site of the fair. Her husband, Paddy, has picked up the reigns and continues to run the fairs.

It is always a delight to be involved and we’re really looking forward to this year.

Yesterday we were in Uttoexeter at the Meynell and South Staffordshire Hunt Marie Curie Cancer Care Autumn Bazaar. Marie Curie Cancer Care provides care for cancer patients at home and in their specialist homes.  They lobby politically to ensure that the needs of cancer patients are constantly being met and they continually carry out research and innovation to provide the best possible care.

Marie Curie, to whom the charity owes its name, discovered radium, the highly radioactive element. Her research into radioactivity led to major scientific breakthroughs in the treatment of cancer and in X-Ray technology. Twice winner of the Nobel price, for physics and then chemistry, she is often regarded as the first woman to make a significant contribution to science.

This evening and tomorrow we are going to be at the Asthma Gift Fair at the Hurlingham Club.

The fair has been running since 1982 and has raised over £1 million for Asthma UK.  The charity helps to improve people’s lives and understanding of asthma.  They have been involved in campaigns such as the smoking ban, to allow asthma sufferers the freedom to visit public places like restaurants and pubs.  They also support people in every part of their day to day lives, at work, at home and at school.

This week we are in Odiham for the NSPCC Autumn Fair. Founded in 1884, they have become one of the most prominent children’s charities in the UK and we are always proud to support them. Through their Full Stop campaign they have helped more than 750,000 children through their local services.

Scooter Computer are a fantastic IT support service. Below is our interview with Will Foot, their Director:

What is Scooter Computer?

We are an IT call out service – any It issue you have in London, we will scoot to your door to help you out.

What are the most common problems you face?

We can be asked to fix literally anything. From iPods through to camera, telephones through to DVD players. Common issues we are called out to are wireless internet help (often to extend the range of wireless networks within the home), help removing viruses and pop-ups, and setting up new machines from scratch and transferring data from their old machine.

What’s the easiest fix you’ve had?!

Probably rebooting a router! If you have any issues with internet, the first thing you should try is switching off the router (modem) and back on again. That and plugging in disconnected cables are the quickest solutions we probably carry out.

Best piece of advice?

Obvious one – keep backups of everything you hold dear. If a file isn’t backed up, it doesn’t exist. We see so many people coming to us when it’s too late. Hard drives really can fail, out of the blue.

For Windows users, a couple of pieces of free software can really keep your machine running cleanly – AVG Free (antivirus protection) and Malwarebytes (malware protection).

For Mac users, if you need to use Windows for a certain application, you can run it on your Mac with Bootcamp, so you don’t have to keep a Windows machine just in case.

What trends are you seeing?

Tablet PCs are the dominant product release right now. It started with the iPad, but Samsung, Blackberry, HTC and practically every other computer manufacturer out there are bringing tablets to market right now.

Over the last few years we are seeing more and more Mac machines being bought by our clients. They usually use them in parallel with their Windows counterparts, but Macs are definitely popular beyond their previous demographic of artistic types and designers.

How can we call you out?

020 7384 5949, www.scootercomputer.co.uk.

Lastly, any famous clients?

Yes! Cat Deeley, who I saw this morning and is lovely, and Anneka Rice. We also regularly help out Caprice with her lingerie company, Caprice Lingerie.
